Nestled in the heart of Sterling, VA, Masa Luna brings the vibrant flavors of Salvadoran cuisine to your table with an authenticity that’s truly unforgettable. This cozy, unpretentious restaurant invites guests to indulge in traditional Central American dishes that celebrate bold spices and comforting, home-style cooking.

The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Burrito Ranchero, a hearty and flavorful creation that perfectly balances savory fillings with fresh, hand-prepared tortillas. The Chips & Salsa here aren’t just an afterthought—they’re crisp and fresh, providing the perfect introductory crunch to the meal. But don’t stop there; the famed papusas come highly recommended, featuring a tender yet hearty masa base enveloping rich and satisfying fillings. They carry a delicate smoky aroma and a satisfyingly chewy texture that will keep you coming back for more.

The breakfast offerings at Masa Luna are a morning revelation. As shared by loyal patrons, the early hours bring a hot, authentic start to the day with dishes that awaken the senses and warm the soul. The soups are fresh and comforting, rich with layers of savory depth that make each spoonful memorable. Every bite captures the essence of home-cooked goodness that Salvadorean cuisine is known for.

The atmosphere is intimate and welcoming, embracing the charm of a “hole in the wall” that locals have come to cherish as a neighborhood gem. While the place can get busy—especially on a rainy Sunday afternoon—the bustling energy only amplifies the sense of community. Friendly service helps you feel right at home from the moment you walk in, even amidst the occasional parking challenges. Whether you’re dining in or opting for takeout, the team strives to deliver a warm experience enhanced by genuine smiles and attentive care.

One unique touch is the small bar area connected to a local gas and convenience store, perfect for grabbing a cold beer alongside your meal. It adds a laid-back, casual flair that complements the heartfelt, authentic dining experience. Fans rave about the baleadas here—their tortillas are thin and delicate, with a texture reminiscent of crepes, making each bite a blend of softness and subtle chew that is simply addictive.

If you’re searching for a spot to gather with friends over great food and genuine Salvadoran flavors, Masa Luna is a hidden treasure in Sterling worth discovering. I cannot pass with place without stopping. They are open early for a very authentic and delicious breakfast. The papusas are great! And the soup is fresh and tasty.

Small restaurant but really good food. The tacos here are excellent. Also liked the papusas? Stopped in just to check it out since it is just around the corner. People are friendly. Last I was there they only served beer. Connected to gas/drop in store. There is a small bar. Tables available for other customers. You can also call in and take out. I haven't been there at night but it looks like it would be a hopping place. Noticed other comments about women customers. Not sure about that. I will check that out next time.

Nice "hole in the wall" Salvadorean restaurant. It was busy and slightly crowded on a rainy Sunday, but the food was phenomenal. The service left something to be desired (looking at you front desk fellow), but the servers were friendly and helpful once they took ownership of your table. The food really stands out though. There's parking woes to deal with, but the food is worth it.

My fiancée is obsessed with their baleadas. There’s just something about the flour the tortilla is made with. It’s like the texture of a crepe. But definitely call ahead when placing an ordering because with take out it usually takes awhile.
